My siamese cat and a new dog.... advice please!?

well i have a siamese cat about 2 years in age

and we had a dog ... which isn't with us anymore

she doesn't act depressed or anything soo good news and it has been 8 months since our dog left us. between this time we had a kitten about 3 months old w/ us for a month and the whole entire time my cat was hiding in her cat house only coming out to eat and use her box. we gave the kitten to a friend and my cat became back to normal and nice. I really miss my dog and i kno i cant get him back so i want another one... how would this go over with my cat?

and if she is depressed like she was when we got the kitten what should i do?

i love my cat but im not sure what to do but i want a dog because it feels like we are missing a member of our family

i am getting a dog and am not getting rid of my cat and im not sure my cat would just get over it .... now i am just babbeling ..... soo thanks to all that help me!!!!My siamese cat and a new dog.... advice please!?
Siamese are such very sensitive critters. When bringing home a new pet, especially a puppy or kitten, it's hard to not pay tons of attention to the newcomer, and often that makes the resident cat feel very insecure. It's always best to keep the newcomer confined to their own room for a few days, to give your cat a chance to get used to the smells and whole idea. And of course, make a big fuss over the cat. Puppies are bouncy and can be overwhelming for a cat, especially if the puppy's allowed to bounce or chase the cat - this must NEVER be allowed to happen. Introductions are best done on a leash or with the puppy in his kennel. All introductions should be done s-l-o-w-l-y over a period of days, not all at once. Again, reassuring your cat during this intro period and making it gradual will give you the best chance of making it work.My siamese cat and a new dog.... advice please!?
It is never easy to lose a pet, and you do have my sympathy.

Your cat has also lost a ';friend'; in the house. It is surprising how often dogs and cats can rub along together happily.

Siamese are intelliegnt animals who can be quite territorial, and sometimes jealous. Introducing a new friend is - for them - another animal invading their space whom they do not know and do not like. However intelligent, they cannot ';imagine'; that the new stranger may become a friend over time.

However, in the vast majority of cases, they do settle over time. I have usually advised people that it can take anything up to 6 months to achieve a normal balance in the household after introducing a new kitten or cat. So, if you had persevered with the kitten, it would have settled in time. They may not have been the best of friends but your Siamese would have returned t normal behaviour.

The same will be true of introducing a new dog. The Siamese will not recognise it as a friend, will hide away and avoid the dog whenever possible ..... but she will slowly come around.

Patience is the key, and a strong line with the new dog. It must know that ';cats rule!!'; :-)
