Travel Advice: New York, Hidden Gems.?

I'm heading to New York next month for three weeks. I will be doing all the touristy things but I want to get experience the city outside the usual tourist bubble. Any suggestions on what I should get up to, what I should see. Great eateries, bars, unique galleries, theatres, markets etc. that may not be on any tourism guides. Give me your secrets New York.

cheers :)Travel Advice: New York, Hidden Gems.?

Go bar hopping in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. There is also a high concentration of excellent restaurants there.

Also in Brooklyn, go eat a hot dog in Coney Island at Nathan's and see the Boardwalk before they begin tearing down this landmark and renovating.Travel Advice: New York, Hidden Gems.?
