Will be in New York for a Holiday. Need advice on which neighborhood in Brooklyn is safe?

Which is a safer neighorhood -

S 3rd Street, Brooklyn

or

Carlton Avenue at Dekalb Avenue

or

237 Powers Street at BushwickWill be in New York for a Holiday. Need advice on which neighborhood in Brooklyn is safe?
I would say S 3rd or Carlton and Dekalb. Powers Street at Bushwick is in an area with more crime. S 3rd is a little seedy but not as bad. Will be in New York for a Holiday. Need advice on which neighborhood in Brooklyn is safe?
I'd pick 237 Powers Street is near a very busy Avenue and you'll have the L train and some buses near by as choice of transportation.

But the S 3rd might be a good choice too. Don't knw much about the Carlton Avenue one.

I'm starting a new job and am worried about my dog being home alone, advice please?

I got a new job that I'm starting on Monday. 8-5 and it's too far of a commute to come home for lunch so my dachshund Oliver will be home alone all that time by himself. Ever since I've had him, I've worked from home, so he's never been alone for that long.

I have kongs, toys, bully sticks, and other stuff to occupy him so hopefully that would help. I would put him in doggy day care but I don't think I could afford it. Any suggestions? Am I worrying too much??? He is potty trained and not a barker, I';m just worried he will be really lonely... :(I'm starting a new job and am worried about my dog being home alone, advice please?
Leave the TV on for him tuned to Animal Planet, that will keep him company, your other option is to get another doggie to keep him company or a cat. You can also leave the radio on.I'm starting a new job and am worried about my dog being home alone, advice please?
instead of doggy daycare why don't you look into have a private dog walker come in to take him for a 30 minute walk mid-day? if you use a smaller pet sitting company, then you will get a pretty fair price. stay away from franchised companies because they charge more. most importantly make sure they are bonded and insured and can show you proof that they are.
He will be fine. Maybe consider doggie day care for a few days a week. Maybe would be affordable and give him something to do for some of the days you are gone so long. Do you have anyone who can look in on him during the day at least once? Just have to be creative. If you can't do any of this, your dog should be fine, but could become bored and might make up his own fun. You may not like what he does.
You should try it for a few days to see how he does. If he is really, really lonely, maybe you could get him a buddy to play with?
Do you have a neighbor or a friend that could take care of him for you? Leaving him alone all that time is not a good idea. You should consider getting another dog from a shelter. They are not typically expesnsive and need loving homes. Although it would not be a good idea to purchase a new dog on a day you are working as it will need time to adjust to you and it's new surroundings. By the way, I was reading a new study on dogs the other day, and it said that the last thing your dog sees you doing before you leave, is a big trigger for the dog to destroy the it. You MIGHT be able to leave your dog outside if you have a big enough yard and an electric collar (or a fenced in yard.) Just amke sure you supply food and fresh, cool water, and lot's of toys! Also, please, please, please don't cage him! That is the absolute WORST thing you could ever do if you are gone!!! Your dog will already be scared because you are gone, but he will have nowhere to go and will also be stressed out because of the limited space he has, and he will most likely have to use the bathroom while you are gone. Could you possibly bring him to work with you? If you need any more help, please contact me CharmedLvr2332@aol.com

Good Luck!! Let me know what you decide!

Also leave the tv on for him!!! That's reallly important! But nothing where there is screaming or crying, as that will upset him even more. Try a channel like Disney, r Nick. I wouldn't do nimal planet because seeing other animals could upset him to.
You may be over reacting a bit. My advice is to graduatly let him/her know that you will be leaving.Go to the store, if you come back and he has been good, give him a treat, if not, let him or her see and realize he or she hasn't done good and give them nothing.
I think he will be Ok. You may have a bit of adjustment but most dogs do well on their own.

As long as there is something to do or watch he should be fine.

One thing though. Do not act like it is a big deal. If you treat him differently when you leave and come back he will think there is something terribly wrong and get anxious. Just say goodbye as you normally would when you leave in the morning and when you return in the evening just act like you were just out for a few minutes. His primary concern will probably be that you are all right so if he sees you are fine then he will not worry.
a dog loves attension if theres someone whos there when your not then thats fine

but if you want a happy healthy dog you should take your dog with you if possible

if u can't take your dog with you give it some exercise before you go so it will rest more when your gone and if you want you can leave some music on the sound of voices calms the dog if worried
You can leave the tv on or a radio that will help. I have to leave my dog alone and she reacts somewhat just dog proof things that he can get into and you won't come home to WWIII when you come home from work. Good luck

I can't think of a name for my new dog. Advice?

I just got a female rottweiler puppy yesterday night and i still can't come up with a cool name for her. I want it to be a unique name instead of something cliche like ';killer';. I want to name her after a nordic godess but the names don't seem like they fit right and i want a name we can all agree with... Any advice on figuring out a name? Thank you.I can't think of a name for my new dog. Advice?
What about Anya? I know only one other female rottie with this name and she really is a big softie. My female rott is called Nya (pronounced to rhyme with hiya). She is just 8 months old and an absolute sweetie. Our other old girl is called narla (the other sp for this is nala taken from the lion king). As yet I have never met anyone in person who has dogs with these names and at the vets we are the only ones listed to have dogs named as such.

( There was one lady on Answers with a dog named nala but I know of no one else.)

Hope this helpsI can't think of a name for my new dog. Advice?
I went to the web and looked up names when I needed to rename my horse. I knew I wanted it to be an Indian name so I looked up Indian names and their meanings. I found the perfect one for him. But for my dog, I waited for a little bit knowing that I wanted the name to ';fit'; him. Sure enough, a little while later my favorite song from Godsmack came on and there it was... I named my Dobe ';Sully Voodoo'; We called him Sully. My cat was named after Stewie from the Family Guy because you could just see the little instigator in him.
Ok. What color is she?

If she's brown you could call her brownie or chocolate.

If she's white or yellow, you could name her vanilla.

If she's black name her diamond.

If you want some ';fierce'; names, try something like klondike or boxer or radar, maybe even fang. you can go to this website for 2,000 dog names: http://petrix.com/dognames/index.html , or you can go here for some female puppy names: http://www.babydognames.com/popular.htm
Make something up. Try different names, or combinations of names, etc. Or make up a new name or word and use it on her. See what she responds to. Or maybe name her something in German. I know a Newfoundland named Berlin. The dog really does look like one.

Understand that it won't be unique if we come up with the names.
Uzume was a japanese goddess. Its a unique name and you can read about her below.

Also Indian goddess Sarama would be perfect...very doggy inspired....look up the meaning on the attached reference. On that site there are heaps of different names from different regions..there should be one at least that you find suits her.

I hope you find the right name for your pup.

Ebay: I'm thinking of trying to sell some items on Ebay. Do you have any advice for a brand new seller?

Advice for a new seller, from a previous highly rated seller.

1. Check out all of the fees including e-payment fees before you sell so you're not blindsided by the amount of fees.

2. Respond clearly to questions from e-bay members. Check your e-mail several times a day during the first few days, and then repeatedly as the sale nears the end. You might have a prospective buyer submitting a last minute question.

3. Describe your merchandise as clearly and as honestly as possible. Note any flaws with the item - and check it over 3 times.

4. CLEARLY state your policys - shipping cost, not returnable, when they may expect to receive the item after the auction ends, and anything else you need to make crystal clear.

5. Stock up on your shipping supplies - mailers, bubble wrap, boxes, stamps, etc.

6. Have fun and don't let it consume all of your time!Ebay: I'm thinking of trying to sell some items on Ebay. Do you have any advice for a brand new seller?
Hi,

1) Don't try to find hot selling items. Much of your success depends on HOW you sell and not WHAT you sell.

2) Learn how to optimise the listings including the right keywords.

3) A must-have is an appealing product picture on the listing.

4) The listing must be easy-to-scan to make your visitors stay at the listing - not leave within a few seconds.

5) Loads of stuff you can learn from a 5 day Free Video Course from a website below.

  • Advice on new parenting?

mothers tend not to inform their daughters of the trials and tribulations in having a child, why?Advice on new parenting?
I blame my mother for not sharing the trial and tribulations with me. She made it seem so easy. When i was a girl, she would go so far as criticizing other mothers for being lazy. I didnt think it would be difficult at all bc she said it would all come naturally. Yeah, sure it came naturally but she didnt say anything about the nerves! she didnt say that every noise the baby made would wake me up and shoot me out of bed like a rocket, only to find that the baby was just stretching. Then she didnt tell me that once i got real comfy and asleep, the baby will wake me up again. She didnt tell me about nursing blisters (apparently she didnt have them), she didnt tell me about the depression (apparently she had it, but didnt tell me bc she wanted me to ';find out for yourself';), and she didnt tell me that although my husband had the intentions to help in everyway he can, he just could NOT breastfeed or change a diaper before the baby gets mad. I dont know why she didnt tell me. Maybe bc it sounds like complaining and my mom doesnt complain.

Will i tell my daughter? yes, i will, and i will tell her that it may sound like i am complaining, but im not, i am just stating cold-hard facts.Advice on new parenting?
Every mother I know has shared information about parenting with their daughters. If yours hasn't, there are some great books and websites out there such as What to Expect When You're Expecting and babycenter.com

Some advice on my new kitten please?

The 10 week wait is over and I finally got my gorgeous little ball of fluff on Sunday. She is just adorable, and very clever using her kitty litter straight away (thanks to everyone for advice on kitty litter a few weeks ago) I also asked for some names for her and for those of you who answered I have named her Isis, pronounced Ice ess. My little boy calls her icy, which I think is very cute to! Anyway I’m so excited I’m rambling so I’ll get to the question. I was concerned about how my little dog would act with a new kitten, but my dog is being wonderful with her, it’s the kitten that is terrified of the dog. She is aching her back, hissing and scratching my dog when she comes to close. And they keep having these staring standoffs, the kitten is fine until the dog moves. What should I do? I know its only day 2, so should I just be supervising and letting them sort it out themselves? Do you think kitty will get used to the dog and stop her hissing and scratching? I’m just worried that our dog will lose an eye the way they are going, but the dog is so good with her she just wants to say hello but is scared of the kitten and backs off lol. Anything I should be doing or some advice would be great!!!! Thanks so much :)Some advice on my new kitten please?
Just be patient. The kitten is very young and probably isn't sure what exactly a dog is. The hissing, arching of the back and scratching are perfectly normal and a way of trying to demonstrate that although she's small, she isn't a pushover.

The dog, being older, recognizes Isis as another animal. Since he isn't being aggressive in retaliation, he obviously understands that she doesn't really mean any harm and I'm guessing that he backs off more in disappointment than anything else.

Like I said, just be patient. Continue to supervise them. You could try setting their food bowls out at the same time, on different sides of the room, and each day bring them closer together. By the time the bowls are side by side, I think you will find that the two animals will have figured everything out.

Good luck. Some advice on my new kitten please?
I would just let the two of them work things out. If the dog is being so wonderful the kitten will get used to the dog and know that it is of no harm. This is all a natural part of GETTING TO KNOW EACH OTHER!!! If the dog hasn't yelped then the kitten isn't really being defensive--the kitten is just saying ';Stay back, I'm not too sure of you yet.'; They are both curious of each other. You could also trim the kittens claws so there isn't blood drawn on the dog, just to be safe.

They'll be good friends!!! I have a cat, German Shepherd and Beagle--they get along well and my cat is declawed so if he swipes at either one of them in play nothing happens but he does have is hide claws when he thinks he needs to get rough.
As you said it's only day 2. I have 3 cats and a few weeks ago I got a dog. It took about a week for the youngest cat, (she is still a kitten really) to get used to Honey. Now they play all the time. The 2 older cats do not like to play, the oldest runs away (she is quite small as she was a stray that we found when she was 2 weeks old) and the second oldest is huge... like a lion lol. He just has to sit quiet and raise a paw inthe air if Honey goes near him and Honey backs off lol. It took all my cats a good few weeks to get used to each other too. Just hang in there, it takes time, I am still waiting after a few weeks...
Give it a week or two before you let them be alone together without supervision. You don't want a tragedy, and a dog can hurt a kitten without even meaning to.

It's great your dog is good with the kitten, though. Dogs sometimes don't like sharing.
    Give it some time.

Cats are naturally afraid of dogs, but they can outgrow it. I've had both several times.

It's good that your dog isn't being aggressive. It sounds like the dog will have to be patient. The dog will learn to avoid the cat's claws until they acclimate to each other.

Don't force it. Don't get upset at the kitten for acting on its natural instincts. Just let them exist together, and they'll become friends.
give them some time, the only other dogs she has probaley ever seen barked/chased at her. They will work it out.
Hi, I'm a Vet Tech and this is the advice that we would give any of our customers at our practice - Let the kitten get used to the dog and also her new home. Moving to a new place can be quite interesting and scary for a new pet. I would supervise, just to make sure nothing happens to your dog in the process. Soon, the kitten will get used to new home and get used to her new family. Hope this helps! Remember to get your kittens boosters!
First, keep the kittens nails clipped.

Second, things will settle down between the animals adventually, even if it is an uneasy truce. It takes time. I found that once I stopped trying to be the peacekeeper between my cats, and let them work it out..they were fine.
i know Isis will get used to your dog. she is just afraid because your dog is bigger than her and something that she has never seen before. supervise. do not let the dog chase her or anything like that. my 12 year old cat was able to get used to my boyfriend's 2 dogs within one month. she still has her hissing and swatting moments... but they are few and far between. all pets that live together will have their differences, just like people.... but they will be fine.

encourage them both when they are around each other. pet them both and maybe give them both treats when they are being friendly. and give it time. kitty will get used to the big funny looking creature!
Cats are very territorial creatures. A dog is often perceived as an invading force. Your dog also presents a very unfamiliar and foreign presense which can make your kitty feel very insecure and threatened. If it's only two days,, it may be worth it to wait it out a little longer. If the hissing continues, you should call your vet and ask for advice, and if need be, ask to be referred to an animal behaviorist who could give you more information and advice. I hope the situation settles down and that this all works out. Good luck.
Just give them some time to get used to each other and keep an eye on them when they are together.

Need advice on a new laptop capable of handling...

To cut a long story short, I am looking to buy a new laptop and I need advice on what exactly to look for as my understanding of computers is laughable.

    What I need:

    1) For my course I am required to use Microsoft Office and SPSS frequently. Photoshop is also useful to have for posters/presentations, but it is not essential to have this on my laptop.

    2) I have a lot of songs and I put most of my CDs onto my laptop to save me carrying dozens of CDs around. I use iTunes so it's pretty much essential that this runs on the laptop. However, I have an external hard drive so there is no desperate need to store my CDs on the laptop itself.

    3) I use the internet a lot, often for hours when I have assignments and need to do research (which is often, since my course is heavy on research). So a laptop that is good with Internet Explorer and the net in general is essential. I use a wireless connection, if that helps.

    4) I want to play the Sims 2 and hopefully the Sims 3 when it is released (though when 3 comes, 2 will be deleted off the machine), so I'm going to say that a machine that can handle those games is essential.

    5) I can't really afford more than æ‹¢500/æ‹¢600 for a laptop and would be reluctant to part with more than æ‹¢500 (my old laptop was great while it lasted and was less than æ‹¢500). There are a lot of sales on at the moment, so feel free to mention any ideal laptops that may push this price limit.

    What I don't want:

No Macs. I hate Macs. Desktops are also out of the question since I need to be able to carry whatever machine I have around a lot. The laptop needs to be a reasonable weight and compact enough to carry around but also have a decent-sized screen (it is possible, my old Samsung R20 was a perfect size).

I have had my eye on a Sony VAIO NR32M in a sale but I really want to know what would be best before I spend any money.Need advice on a new laptop capable of handling...
well, for one thing, i haven't seen very many laptops under 500... and i don't know much about laptops but my uncle has a dell and he pretty much does everything with it so maybe you should look into something of that brand...and about the price, from what ive seen has been from 500-1000+ sony is good also but when i had mine a few years ago it had a lot of problems when i got it. i hope this helps and good luck!

Advice for new college students, PLEASE!?

my first day of college is this monday. i am sooo nervous. is there any advice that someone can give me for my first day? this might sound retarded but like seriously. i just need to know like what to do when i go in there. and for the record its community college and i'm majoring in criminal justice. thanks to anyone who knows some advice you can give me.Advice for new college students, PLEASE!?
Remember that this class is designed for people exactly like you--it is entry level college material. It will be more demanding than high school, but presumably you are more mature and more focused on your studies.

Everyone else in the room will be in a similar situation. Some will be young like you, some will be coming to this as a second career.

Now for some survival tactics, take a notebook, a couple of pens, and the textbook if there is one. Try to arrive a few minutes early and sit in the front row or in the center row directly in front of the instructor. Studies show that people who sit in that ';T'; are more likely to make the highest grades in the room. Avoid sitting in the back or along the sides of the room if at all possible, those same studies show those people make the lowest grades in the room.

Take lots of notes and later the same day, RE-WRITE them. Go through your lecture notes and as you see your notes, you will recall additional things the instructor said that perhaps you didn't write down the first time. Your second set of notes will likely be longer, but more complete. Highlight the most important points. Committing things to memory is a matter of repetition. Re-writing will greatly enhance your understanding of the material and help you when it's time to study for tests.

Keep up with the reading, and talk to your instructor if you have questions. Consider starting a study group if that is helpful. Good-luck.Advice for new college students, PLEASE!?
Being nervous is completely normal. Since you're going to cc, I assume you're driving there? So you'll need to find a place to park. It might be a good idea to go to the college's website and learn what you need to do to get a parking sticker, if one is needed, and also get a campus map so you can find the parking and also your classroom buildings.

When you go to class that first day, bring a notebook and pen. You don't usually have to have the books on the first day, but do plan to buy them on your first day, so learn where the bookstore is. In fact, if you have a break on your schedule when you plan to go to the bookstore, ask another person in your class - another freshman - if they're buying their books, and if they want to go with you (making friends already, see?) Or if you're going to go to lunch, ask a person you spoke to in class if they want to go with.
well your first day of school will just be simple where the instructor will hand out a sylabus that goes over the outline of the entire cource and what he expects and how the grading will be done and attendence policy.

In college you need to pay attention and take notes. write down anything he emphasizes or writes down on the board or anything they seem to say more than once because you may see it again on a exam. other than that just relax and dont stress yourself out. college can be fun.
its no different than going to any other school. Take a trip a day or two before monday, make sure you know where you need to park and find out where all your classes are.

Then get up on monday, eat a hearty breakfast, get dressed, drive you self to campus and go to class. lol. you will most likely have those in class introductions if the class is small, meet people with the same major, and begin to settle in and meet new people. its no big deal. no reason to be nervous. much better experience than high school. good luck. : )
There's really no reason to be nervous. You won't notice much difference in the classroom than in high school. You'll still have to take notes, do homework, etc.

The one difference you'll notice is that everyone, including the teacher, is more into it. They WANT to learn this stuff. So if anything, you should be excited.
stay cool. we have the same feeling when i also enter college. you just have stay cool and be your self. have more self confidence and be approachable. when somebody ask your name just talk to them and be proud of your self but not be too boastful. so that you can make friends easily.

    well,,goodluck!
    Be smart... start studying now.

Don't goof off too much your freshmen year, yeah I know its a new experience and a time for growth and blah blah blah but I really wish I could go back and redo my freshmen year and maybe raise my GPA. I graduated just fine... but it was really hard to keep my GPA up with slacking off my first semester.
Well the First thing you should know is that is NOT HIGH SCHOOL ANYMORE.....get to know people in college talk to NEW people.....focus on studying
    GO TO CLASS.

settle in, dont make too many frends, just study

    Kia's have a 10 yr, 100K warrantyAdvice on new car? I have a budget of 16K?
There is no good American car under 16K. It would even be hard to find a Japanese car for under 16K that is decent these days.

The best warranties out there come from Hyundai (10 year / 100K miles) and possible Dodge/Jeep/Chrysler since they have some sort of limited lifetime powertrain warranty.

The way I see it warranties cost more money than they are worth and there is no way you can justify paying $16K for a car that likely is going to have the warranty expire before the first major tune up. If you paid a couple thousand dollars you could get a 1992-1995 Honda Civic that gets around 30-40mpg, spend $50 or less on spark plug wires, spend $10 on spark plugs, spend $10 on a new fuel filter, get new brake pads and rotors, new brake lines, new fuel lines, buy a timing belt, water pump, change the oil every 5000 miles with a decent brand and an oil filter that isn't made by Fram, and replace anything non-essential that is broken. I've not even mentioned $500 worth of parts and you've replaced most of the things that go wrong in an engine that hasn't been abused.

If you are so worried about having a reliable car you can just buy two of the above car. They are reliable to begin with and if one goes bad just drive the other till you can figure out and repair whatever is wrong with it.
16k for a new car you will be disappointed. I personally think buying new cast isn't very smart, as it depreciates dramatically in the first 2-3 years. Most car manufactures have a 75k mile warranty or even more. You can most likely get a 2007 or 2006 car for 20%-40% the cost of the same thing brand new. Its up to you of course. Dodge has some good deals going on right now with gas and power train warranty's. Hope this helps.
maybe a chevy aveo, dodge caliber, chevy cobalt, or ford focus.

    use my links.
I have a 2003 chevy malibu. Has decent gas millage, under 16k. Just make sure you check how many miles the car has travelled. Check the history of the car, and make sure you check that all the features work properly.

have a two good binders to ORGANIZE your afternoon classes and morning classes, you might be mixed if you're not used to changing classes so keep a list at all times of the name of your teachers and their room numbers, just be yourself be nice be social include yourself with a group of friends and enjoy life at your new school, i wouldn't hang out with people who do drugs or get wasted that's not healthy, good luck and have fun hope i helpedAdvice for new school. please help, easy points.?
First to try to familiarize yourself with the school by looking at the website and going to open house/orientation so that you have an idea of where you will going and what the layout of the school is. Since you are used to smaller class sizes and more attention from the teachers you will need to make sure you can handle a bigger class size. To do this I recommend that you take notes every day so that you can look back at what you've been doing. Also if you cannot ask the questions you have to the teacher write them down and either ask later or use resources like the internet. Meeting so many new people can be overwhelming but be as friendly and open as possible and people will come up to you. Make yourself approachable rather than being standoffish. Ask around maybe there are so local places that kids at the high school hang out at , you might be able to meet people before school starts. I hope this helps!
I had and am still having the same problem as you. I went to three schools already, the first one I was really young so the adjustment was a breeze. I did most of my growing up in one school, I've been there since grade 2 through the beginning of grade 7. My change was a little different, because I went from a bigger school to a smaller school, but I'll tell you that it's still just as nerve racking. Right now I'm starting grade 8 in a different continent* so I'm pretty nervous. The advice I'll give you, that I'm ';giving'; myself, is to be kind towards everyone. Don't constantly talk about what your old school had that your new school doesn't... I know a kid who was like that, and he ended up the biggest loner in school. Also, don't let anyone manipulate you or bring you down, if someone says something to you, let it drop a few times, but once it really starts getting on your nerves, tell them off back. My biggest piece of advice for you is to just be who you are and be outgoing and optimistic. When people see that you're being real, the proper people will fall into your group of friends. You don't want people liking you for someone you're not. If you're optimistic and outgoing, you'll be respected more, and it'll be easier for you to make friends. Just remember that there are tons of other new kids too, and they're just as nervous as you are :) I hope I helped :)
Join a sports team. Its a great way to make friends. I know I was a new entering freshman, but I joined the football team and made a lot of new friends. This made it so much easier because I had people to sit with at lunch and talk to in some of my classes or even in the hall. Also, try to join some clubs. You can meet some really great friends there
im going to be a freshman too! =)

well first of all, just be yourself. nobody likes a fake person.

be talkative, but make sure you let other people have a say too, so you don't seem selfish.

be kind. be friendly with everyone. try to talk with every ';group.'; jocks, popular, nerds... try to be buddies with them all so everyone knows you!

do not become friends with people who smoke weed or anything like that. you dont want to ruin your freshman year!

be social but also make sure your main focus is school. study study study!

and thats all i have at the moment. =)
Be friendly and talk to everyone. Dress causal and comfortably. Be yourself. Don't be afraid to talk to people. Remember, there will be 599 other freshmen there who feel just like you do.
Try to atract others by any way. Get along with a serious people how love to study and that's it.

Remember : Be friendly and talk to everyone.

10 points best answer!!!!!!!!! crush has a new girlfriend, advice on how to cope?

so my crush of about 4 months has a new girlfriend. i really like him and we are still friends. we get along great and we have the exact same sense of humor. as of 3 days ago, he has a new girfriend (who i wasnt fond of to begin with) since we are friends and im not a *****, i don't plan on interfeering and trying to get with him, since he is taken. i just need some advice on how to deal with the pain in my heart when i see them together(holding eachother, kissing, etc.)

also i don't know whether i shoul try and remain friends with him for hope that someday it will work out adn just to enjoy his friendship because i enjoy being around him.... or should i just try and forget about him completley so it won't hurt as much.

i just need some girl advice, please help!10 points best answer!!!!!!!!! crush has a new girlfriend, advice on how to cope?
Oh snap. This same thing happened to me today, and many times in the past.

So ive been liking this guy, for quite a long time. Like really really liking him. He is so sweet, and funny. Like you I love his company. We are friends, in a way. So today I was at school, and next thing I know I hear ';Adam and ____'; are dating.'; Oh man I was so mad, and heartbroken. Still am right now. And what hurts even more is that people keep saying ';there such a cute couple.'; uhmm no there not, me and him would have been so much better.

    So what am I doing?

Im just gonna support there relationship as that would be the best thing to do. Although deep down I will hope that they break up.

I will try to keep busy, hopefully I will meet some other boys and meet a new guy that I can crush on.

I suggest you do the same.

Just keep busy that way you wont be able to think about it. There are other fish in the sea. Who knows maybe they will eventually break up.

I say that you remain friends with him. I plan on remaining friends with my crush. If he cant be my boyfriend, well a friend is better than nothing.10 points best answer!!!!!!!!! crush has a new girlfriend, advice on how to cope?
well if yu like him theres nutin wrong with tryn to get him to like yu alls fair in love nd war so who cares if hes taken..or maybe hes not the one 4 yu nd yur guy will come soon butt since yu just wanna get over it i wuld say spend some time on yur self maybe change yur look get a new hair cut do something to make yur self feel good nd start to be independent act like yu can have any guy nd maybe yull find one.
well not quite a female perspective but.....next time you see them just remember. Its not going to last. and when the time finally comes you can swoop in and get him! in the mean time just surround yourself with friends and do things to get him off your mind.
Remain friends if its too hard to do that forget him. He obviously isnt worth your time i mean he hasnt picked you yet.you need a guy who is a good friend but he needs to relize faster how amazing you are.
Find things to do to keep busy and keep your mind off the situation. Friends, family, interests and hobbies, whatever you do. If you're idle your mind will go straight to the endless loop of thoughts about him, and you'll irritate yourself without accomplishing anything.

Take this as a good challenge, dealing with your own emotions. This probably won't be the last time you're in this kind of situation. How well can you handle it, and be gracious in 'defeat'? Can you play like a champion? Can you be a great friend even when you're hurting? It will say a lot about your character if you can overcome this.

Be ready, for when he breaks up with her, to make your move and go for him.
I am pretty much in the same boat. (It's almost freakish how similar our situations are...) As for dealing with seeing them together, there is nothing that can really be done except for taking a deep breath, and walking in the other direction. If walking in the other direction is not an available option, a smile and a polite attitude not only makes everything as stress-less as possible, but helps your reputation as well. People tend to like other nice people! :)

Whether you should remain friends with him is something that you will have to figure out for yourself. Ask yourself a few questions: Is there a chance at a relationship if this new one goes south? How big is that chance? Do I want to date him, or have I just fallen in love with the idea of dating him? Is this friendship worth being okay with just being friends? Is the hurt/heartache worth his company?

And trust me, it'll get easier. It doesn't seem like it now, but it will.

Extreme fear of flying and stuck in NEW YORK advice needed desperately can you please help what should I do?

So I am in a really bad situation,Im stuck in NYC,out of money, sick and loosing my apartment my landlord wants me out by next week.My mom said I could stay with her in my home state of Wisconsin for a few months until I could find an apartment and stand on my feet.I have some health issues that is preventing me from working for now,and I am in a very bad mess because I don't have health insurance, and the standard of care for medicaid is really bad quality. My big problem is I suffer from extreme panic attacks on airplanes, and I mean extreme,I start crying and shaking at the slightest bit of air turbulance. My heart pounds my palms sweat,i start crying uncontrollably, and start hysterically asking nearby passengers to reassure me we were not all about to be doomed.Everyone gets really disturbed and mad at me.I have tried flying several times in the last 2 years even buying a ticket and backing down at the last min, because I was frozen with fear to the point I couldnt function, felt nausiated and dizzy.I have thought about seeing a doctor for some sedatives, but I do not have enough time to wait for an appointment, and I am totally broke as well.I have just enough for a plane ticket.I am so overcome with anxiety I am unable to sleep just thinking about the sound, sites and sensations of the airport and airplane itself,I have tried reading overcoming fear of flight courses online, prayer, talking myself out of it,positive self-motivation etc etc.Nothing seems to be working.I have begged and pleaded with every family member i have to come and drive me back, but none of them have the time or ability to get off work for that. Also due to my health issues, and back problems its impossible for me to take a greyhound or train. So I'm stuck with only two options being homeless on the streets of NY or having a major panic attack in flight if I even make it on board that is,because I am so overcom with anxiety I cannoot imagine even getting to the airport let alone on the plane and in the flight itself. My anxiety seems to be amplified from my depression and anger about loosing all the money I invested in my apartment and NEW YORK,and my recent health diagnosis of serious illness, and injury.I am in chronic pain and have a bad back, which makes it hard to sit,or walk around airports,so i WILL have to request a wheelchair. My question is,what should I DO??I do not want to make the other passengers uncomfortable, because I cannot predict how severe my panic attack will get on board the plane, and if there is any turbulance,I may start screaming, vomiting and even begging to be let off mid-air,without possibility of calming myself down and even crying.I have tried everything I can think of to stop my panic attacks but it seems I have lost control of myself.I have tried all the deep breathing,I truly wish they would offer the option of being put under anesthesia during flight and woken up at landing.PLEASE TELL ME WHAT I SHOULD DO???Extreme fear of flying and stuck in NEW YORK advice needed desperately can you please help what should I do?
Buy a train ticket!Extreme fear of flying and stuck in NEW YORK advice needed desperately can you please help what should I do?
    I don't understand why you can't take a bus or a train .
You could withstand the car ride but not a train? Iam not vey familiar with train travel but I assume they have some type of direct ride. Also the train gives you option to sit or stand depending on your back.

    Good luck
You have to use some of the little money you've got to get some Xanax - it does work well for people who are scared of flying.
My first thought is to use the railroad. I understand what you say about your back, but a train would be much, much faster than a bus.

It's important for you to understand that the panic disorder is itself a phobia. Fast heartbeat and sweat happen with aerobics, and there鈥檚 no reason to fear them, but they will be feared as symptoms of attacks. Sometimes, relief comes from the person seeing that the real problem is not the attack but fear of the attack. What you need is acceptance, of fast heartbeat, feeling queasy, and yes even feeling a bit upset. Do you know those ';Chinese handcuffs';? The thing that fits on your fingers, and the more you try to pull your hands apart the tighter the two ends get? The lesson is, don't struggle and let the symptoms come and go as they please.

It might help to imagine yourself in a plane while you're in a relaxed state (Progressive Relaxation, slow deep breathing, imagining a warm sandy beach). You could also relax while exposing yourself to pictures of planes and You Tube videos, building up to scary things, like Snakes on a Plane.
Can you get to a doctor? They will give you some sort of sedative, like a xanax or something to help you through it.

Also ask for special seating by the aisle or bathroom in case you feel you have to ';escape';. Have ';safety'; devices like a plastic bag in case you feel sick (you'll probably not need it but it is nice to have it in case).

And honestly, for a quick fix have a few drinks beforehand to calm you down.

I'm really nervous about telling my parents about new bf. Advice?

I'm 20 years old. An adult, and ever since the last string of boyfriends, I'm really nervous about telling my parents about a new one. It's been over a year since I dated since the last one was such a jerk, but it's totally my mom who freaks me out. My dad's cool when it comes to guys, but for some reason, my mom comes across as a real *****. And she even gets my brother and others to spy on me, which ok...back when I was in high school I can see, but I'm an adult now and I should have my privacy. She just never likes who ever I bring home and she teases me about it.

What should I say?I'm really nervous about telling my parents about new bf. Advice?
Don't ever bring a boyfriend home to meet your parents unless you are serious about him. That is your problem. You have been dragging home boyfriends for years. Only bring him home for the introduction if you think you may get married to him someday. Otherwise no. Another thing you will scare him if you drag him to meet your parents right away. He will be thinking you already have the wedding dress and church reserved.I'm really nervous about telling my parents about new bf. Advice?
Well at your age you are mature enough to make any decisions about who you date I would say. Why do you need your moms approvall so much , are you not capable of your own decisions in life , when you do find the right one do you then ask your mom when to get married , should you both have kids , what will you name him / her ???????. Stand up for what you believe not for what youbelievee is acceptable to your mom, and your dad is a cool guy really, I respect him.Live you own life and if you make mistakes , so what , they are your mistakes, They will make you stronger, and your mom will maybe start to RESPECT YOU
that you have a new bf and that u r a adult so your mom does not freak out

Advice on a new computer/PS3 lcd monitor?

I'm looking for a new monitor for my PC and my PS3. Needs to be full HD with HDMI and somewhere in the 26-28 inch size range under $900. I've seen some of the Dell's but was wondering what else there was in the market today. Also if you could suggest some places where I could pick one up that would be great or Australian websites I could order from. I live in Western Australia if there are any stores.Advice on a new computer/PS3 lcd monitor?
You can get a nice Sony Bravia for about $ 720.00 at http://www.amazon.com

    Sony BRAVIA XBR KDL-32XBR9 32-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV

Contact them to make sure it has a VGA port or if you don't care for it and have s-video out on your computer you may be able to use that instead. HDMI can also be used if your computer supports it.

I have one similar to this and it looks great for PS3 and PC. For the PC it has VGA port and for PS3 it has a few HDMI ports.

I'm not sure if this one has a VGA port but you can check it out here ...

  • Imagine. We are about to start over on a new planet, any advice so we don't end up in the same place agian ?

Here...let me lend you my copy of ';How to take Over the World For Dummies.'; I'm amazed at the step by step simplicity in this book.

You seriously are going about this the right way. It actually says in Chapter Two that the best way to ';take over the world'; is to start off on a planet of your own, practice, and then you are set to conquer Earth!

Chapter 8 is really intriguing as well. It has a whole checklist of all of the necessary items needed to complete this tremendous acquisition. Amazingly enough, we finally understand what WD-40 is really used for. (read the book and you'll find out too!)

Listen, my job is coming to a close at the end of May. If you need volunteers to help in your project. Just let me know. I've read the book and I'm ready to report for duty!! **salutes**Imagine. We are about to start over on a new planet, any advice so we don't end up in the same place agian ?

yeah .. don't send any humans to the new planet
start with leaving out the invention of telemarketing.
yeah get rid of all religions. All churches. and all goverment. Teach love not hate, and don't make up any laws about sex or things that grow naturaly.
    No advice, interesting question
Remember that Seinfeld episode where George suddenly becomes a success in everything he does? Do you remember what he did to accomplish that? Well, that's what the human race has to do. DO THE OPPOSITE!!!
Use a ticket system like you find in supermarkets on the counter to decide who is right. Also no weapons, try to get along peacefully without religion. Racism is a no-no.

Democracy wouldn't work from start so have to be authoriatian until a peaceful coup would remove it in favour of democracy.
Yea leave the Humans off the planet so it has a chance at a long life, the human race will never learn from its mistakes
Democratic structures. No property owners or bosses. From each according to their ability, to each according to their needs.

I wanna make this right with this new girl advice plz?

alright. college has just begun woot woot!!!. so here i am attending my first year of college and its going pretty smoothly so far. new people to meet, new friends to make, and most importantly my first step of reaching my goal: to be a hotel manager.

anyways theres this girl i just recently met in my class. really smart, really nice, just a typical real plain nice girl.

i just recently started talking to her and im really start to get interested with this girl. she's funny and she has a really spontaneous personality which attracts me the most.

just to add bit more detail, she's for sure avaliable and i have a feeling she think im a nice guy so everything so far is going awsome.

im trying to get a llittle bit more close to her, and i wanna try more of a ';im interested in you'; kind of an approach rather than friendly approach. and i wanna make this right because in my past experience, girls like her ended being my best friend(sadly) and end up not really doing anything more than just friends. maybe because im too much of a nice guy. what actually happened to those past relationship was i never got a chance to open up because i was scared of losing friendships.

so i have really never done the other approach to girls before, actually never have, and i want some suggestion to make this.....i dont know how to say......good start?? lol. anyways. right now im standing good terms with her, havent hang out or anything yet. so i guess our status is just school friends.

i want to move on to bit of more than that......but also i wanna take my time of doing this. one thing that concerns me a little is that she's litterly just real nice to everybody, so when im trying to flirt with her, i dont know if she's just being a nice person or is fliriting back at me.

anyways any kind of suggestion would be great, since ive gotten lots and lots of help from this site.

also would like to add, those of you who are answering i appreciate ALOT and just want to send out thank you for those who are commited helping people myself who needs an advice or just somebody to listen to.

thanksI wanna make this right with this new girl advice plz?
Well, you've started out well so far. Remember: often, a friendship can be a good base start for a romantic relationship. You could ask her if she'd like to chat over some coffee or lunch sometime, and try complimenting her every now and then. Not constantly though: telling her she has nice shoes every 20 minutes is just annoying, lol. But if you notice she did something with her hair, or she's wearing a pretty shirt, then don't be afraid to let her know that. Something that girls really seem to fall for is if you compliment their eyes. For some reason, that's sort of a sign that a guy is interested in you, I'm not sure why, but it is. Once you guys are close to each other, don't be afraid to open up a little. If you always keep things the same at that ';standard friendship mode';, you'll never advance in your relationship.

Now, as a girl, I myself can sometimes be a little... unobservant when it comes to guys. I can never tell when someone is flirting with me or sending me away, however, if they're just direct with me, then I will understand. If a guy says to me ';we should go out together on a date sometime'; then I'll probably get the hint he's interested. There's nothing wrong with being direct with this girl. If talking, complimenting, and even flirting fails, she might be uninterested... or just like me, and still isn't really sure if you're interested in being friends or more. So if that fails, then just try something more direct, like what I mentioned before. She sounds like a very nice girl, so if she isn't interested, I'm sure she'll let you down easy. And if she is interested (and you sound like a really great guy, so I'm sure she will be) then go out with her and try to keep the relationship moving at a slow, but steady pace so you don't just end up ';best friends'; Hope I helped!

Pregnant and barely 3 months into a new job? Advice?

I found out I was pregnant soon after starting a great corporate job. I'm going to have to tell them some time in April and am very nervous about it. The baby is due in October. I only plan to take about 8 weeks of leave and I do plan to work from home starting my third week. Is there a better way to assure them that I'm committed to my job? Has anyone ever been in a similar situation? If so, how did your boss or the company handle it? How do you recommend approaching this situation. What rights do I have in this situation since I'm not protected by FMLA? This totally wasn't planned so I feel kinda bad about it. My boss is very nice and a single man in his late thirties if that even matters.Pregnant and barely 3 months into a new job? Advice?

What specs do i need for a new computer? advice plz?

i need a new computer. my current computer is on its last leg. with my new computer i need to run things like photoshop, illistrator, corawl draw, and bigger applications, things like that. im going to run a one person business form my home, so that will be my creation station as well as my personal computer for games like the sims 3 and pictures and misic. im not sure what specs i need for everything like that. i am just starting my busines so i dont have a lot of money. im thinking i need AT LEAST 2gb of ram, 250gb or hard drive, amd procceser. what else do i need? im thinking about buying a lenvo because ive heard bad things about dell and i have an hp and i hate it. apple is way to expensive. i have never bought a new computer and your help woiuld be apperciated, any serious info you can give me would be great, thanks. What specs do i need for a new computer? advice plz?
Get an apple computer ( a mac) it will run faster and it is more ';Techie';What specs do i need for a new computer? advice plz?
Could you build one? It is not hard, and you get what you want. I do rebuilds and for less than NZ$300.00 I can do a 2.4 gig CPU 2gig DDR6400 new motherboard, power supply and SATA DVD RW.

AMD CPUs handle pictures very well and 2.4-2.7 gig versions are cheap, they have good L2 cache512-1024k

Asus Motherboards are stable and reliable, with good features.

Stay away from apples they are more expensive and you lose your PC options.
You could consider this unit. $499 is not too bad. Dual core AMD 4400+ processor 2GB RAM. 250GB HDD. Windows XP Pro downgrade, if you don't like Vista Business.

    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/鈥?/a>
if u can spend about 3000 dollars then get a mac pro it will let u use vista and mac at same time if u run boot camp it has 8 processers and that newest market comps only have 4 and can be upgraded to 32 gigs of ram so id get that but if u want cheaper go to best bu and put desktops then put buisness
    Mac Book Pro!!!!

I'm a graphic designer and I run all of those programs, including Other powerful media editing software. It meets up to all my needs.
Finding a computer that suits your needs isn't hard at all. You say you want to run games and photo editing applications? That pretty much sums it all up to a high end computer. I would go with a computer that has specs that have equal or greater value:

    - 4GB of Ram for quick loading

    - 500gb of Hard drive space for your pictures, music, and games

    - Nvidia Geforce 8600 or greater video card for your gaming and editing demands

    - Intel Core 2 Duo 2.3 or greater

You can find a computer like that for roughly 800, maybe 900 dollars at http://dell.com/outlet they sell refurbished computers, but they restore them to practically brand new at a price you can only beat if you build your own computer.
Ok well i would recomend SOLIDLY a sony laptop. Check out there website and they have a laptop with bluray M8400 a 3450 graphics card witch will play your games a decently large screen and 4gigs of ram to boot. It will cost you around 1300$ However if you want you can buy a desktop with better inards for a lower cost if you can sacrafice mobility. You can get a computer custom made localy with a E8400 a 9800gt a 22inch monitor and 4 gigs of DDR2 ram for less than 1000$ if you really need a preformance machine on a budget you need to go custom if you can Dell XPS or Inspiron 530 series is good.

P.S dell has really pulled there socks up.
Depends on your operating system. Either way, Vista or XP, I recommend 2gb to 4gb of RAM, a dual-core processor with cores of 2.4ghz or higher, and 250gb+ in hard disk space. If you want to game The Sims 3, I recommend a graphics card in the 9800 series from nVidia or 3800 or 4800 series from ATI.

I built a computer of this caliber recently for under $700. You can buy whole, pre-made ones from Dell, etc. for about $1200 with these specs, but all the work is done for you.

Check out http://newegg.com/ or http://dealnews.com/ for great component or full desktop prices.

Need legal advice workman's comp under physicians care back at work but found a new job does treatment go on?

No the new company will not pay for it. And the old company may stop paying. Check with HR and get it in writingNeed legal advice workman's comp under physicians care back at work but found a new job does treatment go on?
If you don't want to work for your current employer and want to work for another one that's perfectly fine. Just let you adjuster know.

Nothing will change on your claim. If your claim is accepted than your medical and indemnity benefits will still be there regardless what job you work at.

Now...the kicker is if you need surgery on that injured body part and your off work than your temporary total disability (TTD) will be based on the rate from your previous employer.

So if your getting $500 per week from your current employer, the one you got hurt at, and than get the job at the new place that pays $750 per week. If your off work due to the work injury your only paid $500 rate and not the higher rate.

That's the only down side to switching jobs. That's the only problem you would face.

    Good Luck

I need a new computer base unit.

I don't know whether to buy one from somewhere or bother to build it myself again. So your opinions or advice on where to buy one from for the best price or what specifiacation I should be looking for (or both) would be helpful.

I don't need a monitor, just the base unit.

Tell me what you would do with the money (as far as a computer goes anyway, i'm sure that you can all come up with very colourful things to do with a æ‹¢1000. But right at this moment I need the computer:-)

What spec would you be looking for if spending between æ‹¢800 - æ‹¢1000Need a new computer base unit, advice please?
go to ebuyer.com or overclockers.com and buy a barebones kit

800 w/o monitor should buy an excellent pc

2gb ram, duel core 2300+ 500gb hd, 8600nvidea cardNeed a new computer base unit, advice please?
These days you can get a very good computer for that money. The specifications are entirely up to you as it does depend on what you want it for. Making it yourself would be the cheapest option if you know how, if not then i recommend getting it custom made elsewhere.

I can't tell you what to get as thats up to you but I often go to the dell website and custom build a computer there just to get an idea of the price and the specs i can get.

    good luck
    Hi Puter,

It depends on what you want it to do. If you just want it for surfing and WP, then one for about æ‹¢350 should do. Should you want a games machine then your top price of æ‹¢1000 would get you an Intel Core DuoCPU, 500GB HDD, 2GB RAM, Direct X 10 graphics and MS Vista Home Premium. Avoid Dell and PC World, go to Evesham, they have some very good deals.
Various online publications publish regular articles on such themes.

What do you want to do with the computer?

See below for an article on a low cost system that could be used for reading email and web browsing.

Note that though this article uses Linux as the OS (to save $500 or more) you could always buy Windows and the price would still be pretty reasonable.

The second article outlines ideas for building a Vista system.

These web sites, and I suspect many more, have lots of these types of articles. Most people providing such advice want to know what kinds of things you are going to do with it, so they can help you optimise the various hardware needed.
If it were me knowing what I know and able to build my own I would buy a new DELL direct from DELL.COM

  • New baby and asking for advice?

So my baby was sick a few nights ago with a fever and I called my mom for advice. My stepdad picked up and told me since my baby has a fever to dress her really warm and rub rubbing alcohol on her body. Well I thought it was pretty funny. I've had all kinds of advice given to me that makes me laugh for days. What the weirdest and funniest thing someone has told you to do that made you laugh? Did you try it and did it work?New baby and asking for advice?
My youngest son was born in the middle of the night so he had his days and nights mix up as some baby's do. I was talking to my mother in law one day and was extremely tired having just been up all night. She told me to put my son on the floor. Grab him by the ankle{gently} and roll his feet over his head so he does a suto Summer salt ending with him on his tummy facing me. This was supposed to switch his internal clock around. I am ashamed to say That although I did not think it would do anything I gave it a shot anyway.{ Hey in my defense I also had a 4 year old and by that time had about 7 hours of sleep out of 72 and was willing to do almost any thing to get some sleep.}The only thing that happened is my son let out a huge fart . Oh well Since then I have gotten some sleep{ bout 2 years of nights worth} And can see the humor in the situation! In fact I am quite sure the old bag was playing with my sleep deprived mind just to see if I'd do it!New baby and asking for advice?
For my first born who had her days and nights mixed up, my aunt and mom told me to flip the baby backwards. Ya right, I was so nervous just holding my newborn, now there telling me to flip her? I think not. lol....

Then there was my second child who was colic. A neighbour told me to put 3 of those mint chalky peppermints (the ones grandma always had) into a bottle of water and let it dissolve. Have the baby drink it and it will relieve the baby from gas pains. YA, I'll get right on that one, I don't mind taking candy from a baby at this point.
    That is too funny!

I remember my Mother in Law telling me that I should give my 3 month old (exclusivly breast fed) baby, sugar water to ';clean out his system'; because of course she'd done it with all three of her boys and they'd turned out all right (which is a matter of opinion if you ask me).

I told her I didn't think it was necessary and mentioned it to my doctor who gave me the strangest look when I told him.

Also for your info...my husband is the only one in the family who is NOT overweight. Sugar water!

She also said that a pacifier was a good thing to give my baby and tried to force it on him (because I guess her boys used them). She would even try to shove it in his mouth while he was soundly sleeping.

Maybe by far the best though was when I was a baby, I was colic, and the doctor told my dad to give me a bottle of 5:1 water: rye to calm me so I could sleep. The doctor even had some in his bag to offer.
My baby had very little hair and some people told me that to make it grow thicker and faster, to put brandy on his scalp. I never tried it.
I'll be honest: I don't ask people like my parents, etc. for advice on baby care. The ';rules'; change no much -- half of what our parents did for us now fall under the heading of ';do NOT do this!'; according to most pediatricians. For example, the old ';rule'; about bundling up a baby with a fever and rubbing them down with rubbing alcohol? I had that done to me, too, when I was a kid, but it's one of those things that parents are advised not to do.

No one's given me unsolicited advice, either, except for teething advice and the use of alcohol. Although to be fair, no one is advising me to rub whiskey on my babies' gums, so much as making tongue in cheek comments because they KNOW that I'm not going to do that (and because, way back when, every parent did)!
I was told to put peppermint oil in bottle for colic! I did not do it and the special formula cured him thank God, but there are so many tales from older people, that make ya wonder how we use to make it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My mother had an old Spanish cure for bay hiccups. She told me to put a string from my clothing on her forehead.....????lol! Don't ask... I did not do it, they went away on their own.
putting the baby on the dryer. didn't do it. blowing in their face when they start a screaming fit. did it doesnt work. bicycle workout for gas. did it, didn't work. i cant even think aof any more
Well if you rub herr with one of thoose green tomtos looking [sorry don't know the name of it] but it has to be warm like boile it and then cut it in half and rub it on her and then wrap her up warmly
The most ridiculous advice I have ever gotten:

    ';Don't hold a baby too much or you will spoil them';

    ';Just let her cry it out to get her to sleep, its the only way. Besides it strengthens their lungs';

Yikes. Its amazing some people are allowed to be parents.
My grandparents would not stop telling me to give my breastfeeding daughter some rice cereal - when she was only a month old! And they kept saying the pediatrician would tell me to start any day if I didn't listen to them. Of course, she was almost 6 months before I gave her ANY solid food, and we didn't even start with cereal :)
my mom used to do this to me..but not all over my body ..just on the soles of my feet.not sure if it worked or was coincidence but my fever broke...her father passed this remedy to her

I am new to braces, lots of pain, any advice to help with pain?

i just got them on yesterday and i was wondering

how much longer will hurt. i go back to school in two days and i dont want to be in pain AND people making fun of me. I feel like my teeth are going to fall out of my head PLEASE HELP!I am new to braces, lots of pain, any advice to help with pain?
Okay, when people say the pain takes a week or two to go away, understand that it'll be less painful every day. It'll just take time till you don't notice anything at all. By the time you go back to school, you'll be in a lot less pain, I promise. It eases up a lot after the first day or two.

Don't get too upset by a little teasing. So many kids get braces that it's not like you'll be seen as a freak or anything. Mostly it'll be that you'll be getting more attention. There may be some good-natured teasing, but just roll with the jokes. Dish some back if they get to you, like ';Braces will fix my teeth, but nothing can fix your face.'; But I really don't think it'll be bad.

When I was a kid, I think I got more comments when I first got a bra than when I got my braces. And even the bra comments weren't too bad. It's just something you go through, you know?

Just smile proudly!I am new to braces, lots of pain, any advice to help with pain?
Okay. I got braces almost two years ago. (almost time to get them off!) The first week is the worst. The pain will lessen and soon there won't be anymore. First of all, take some tylenol or aspirin for the pain. And whatever you do don't eat anything hard. It's horrible. Just eat really soft things or things you drink. I tried eating pasta, and even that hurt, so we're talking really soft things. The pain will go away. And if it's still hurting when you go back to school, take a tylenol before school. People don't make fun of you for braces. Trust me. Tons of kids have them, and no one gets made fun of.
it will be sore after every tightening session for about 1-3 days Aspirin or Tylenol can help this pain. Cold water and cold drinks can help, Many braces have a slight heat sensitivity to them and the cold will relax the metal and give some relief. if they are cutting your lips go buy some orthodontic wax. Hope i helped you abit i know how painfull it is.
The pain will probably last for a week maximum and there isn't really much you can do I'm afraid. The best thing to do is to avoid chewy, hard foods and to eat softer foods instead, such as pasta. :)
take an asprin or something. that pain will happen everytime you get them tightened but it will go away in a few days or maybe even one day. so just take a pain reliever it really does help. and i know.
It's gonna be like that for a few days-short for 2-3 days long- a week.

It's normal, they're not going to make fun of you. You can start drinking soup for lunch, it fills you up and it doesn't hurt your teeth.
eat liquid foods and soft foods, nothing hard. take pain relievers like advil, tylenol, or ibuprofen. hmm it might hurt now and the pain will persist for usually 1-2 weeks but just think, your teeth will be perfect when its all over! :)
take advil or tylenol, it will help the pain, and dont worry itll go away in a few days.
Take some tylenol or advil! Thats for the pain. But dont worry, the pain will leave in 2-3 days. If its still there after 5 days (which is unlikely) call your orthodontist
Brush ur teeth every three times u eat and don't touch them don't worry they will hurt for like a week and they will go away I promise
welcome to braces.. Get some pain pills, like bayer or whatever floats your boat.. the pain will lessing about about 3-4 days.
they take about 2 weeks for the pain to totally be gone..
    dont chew gum

I need some advice on my new 12 gauge remington shotgun.?

i am getting ready for feasant season and i was wondering what is the best amo that will work the best with my gun. my gun also hold the longer shell in it i dont know if that makes a big difference. also how do you get the plug out of my shotgun because im trying to get the plug out but i cant find it. thnx for your helpI need some advice on my new 12 gauge remington shotgun.?
    Use a 23/4'; Magnum Shotgun Shell with #6 shot or #5 shot for ';Pheasant';

You can take the magazine plug out by unscrewing the barrel Mounting/Magazine Tube Cap, removing the magazine retainer ring and the magazine spring (Be careful removing the retainer ring as the spring behind it is under pressure and will pop out right into your face if you are not careful) The Plug will come out with the spring. Simply remove it and re-assemble the spring, retainer ring. barrel and Magazine tube Cap......I need some advice on my new 12 gauge remington shotgun.?
I have hunted pheasants a lot in the last 50 years. I have found for pheasants you can kill birds with 2%26amp;3/4';shell low base using # 6 shot. High base shells leave a hole in the center of the pattern. Check the regulations in your area as a number of states won't allow more that 3 shells when bird hunting. Why, by the time you have used 3 shots, the bird is far enough away so you could only wound it.

Bigbair70--------------Never let them see you sweat!!!!!!!!!!!
Check the hunting regulations in your State first before removing the plug, because some States require that the shotgun has to be plugged to a three (3)* shell limit.* For hunting pheasant I use #6 or 7 1/2 shot size.*
To get the plug, unscrew the knob on the end of the magazine. Since you will be hunting pheasants, not feasants, use 4 or 5 shot.
    2 3/4'; #6 shot.

And to the unsuspecting masses, there is no functional difference between ';low brass'; and ';high brass'; shells. Both are completely equal in power and performance.

Addendum to Steve: Steve, ';power'; comes from the amount of powder behind the shot, nothing more. The ';brass'; does not dictate the amount of powder in the shell. The amount of metal used is for aesthetic reasons *only* as anyone that can read the side of the box can easily see. The *only* people that keep perpetuating that myth of ';high brass means high power'; are folks who simply never learned the basics.

How often have you heard on this forum of ';experts'; whereby someone will tell someone else that firing ';low brass'; shells is safe in an old damascus shotgun? The fact is that low brass shells are almost always the same exact chamber pressure as high brass ones and will cause a failure just as readily as a magnum shell will.

Further, anyone that's ever picked up a reloading manual knows that Winchester AA's (low brass hulls) are completely capable of handling magnum loads.
    JD is right.
2 questions to answer before you do this. If you are hunting pheasant from a game ranch birds will hold very tight and fly slow. You will not need big shot nor will you need high brass. I shot last Feb and killed um all with 7 1/2 shot from my 20 gauge. Also if you are hunting wild pheasant insure the state you will hunt allows you to remove that plug.

If shotgun is a 11/87 or old 1100 you will not get the plug out
I've heard of pheasant before, but what exactly is a ';feasant';?
randkl: how is it that high brass would not have more energy than low brass? There is more energy behind the pellets, why would it not transfer? I've never heard this argument before in my life.

Moving to New York from Florida and need advice.?

My husband just received a job offer at the airport in Syracuse. I'm not very familiar with New York at all, we live in Tampa, Florida. We would like to find a place that is within easy commuting distance of his job (no more than 40 minutes each way) that is both in a safe neighborhood and reasonably priced, (like under $115,000). Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to look to buy a house? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.Moving to New York from Florida and need advice.?
Try www.cnyhomes.com for real estate listings.

I like the Village of North Syracuse - just north of the airport - because of its village qualities (walking to shops, library, pharmacy), and the public bus service to Syracuse, which means I don't have to drive to work, particularly when the snow is too heavy for me. Most homes in the Village will fit within your budget.

If you're looking for a more suburban feel, try Minoa or Bridgeport (to the East and NE of the airport), or Liverpool (town of Clay). You don't have to commute more than 15 minutes to the airport from these places. A commute of 40 minutes is quite long by CNY (Central NY) standards.

Feel free to e-mail me if you have any more questions.Moving to New York from Florida and need advice.?
I don't know the Syracuse area, but I would recommend looking on http://syracuse.craigslist.org/rfs/ for a general sense of the real estate market. Also be sure to research property tax rates as you're figuring out what you can afford.

    Good luck.
Get ready to freeze your *** off.
I don't know why you want to leave Tampa, I lived there for 11 years and often wish I was still there. Retired from People Gas System aka TECO. The reason we moved to Texas I have been trying to figure for the past 25 years. We lived in NJ most of our lives and between the cold, rain and snow glad we are not still there. You can look on the WWW under real estate for that area.

First answer to your question regarding gravel, it should be 1 to 1 1/2 pounds of gravel for every gallon of water.

There are several cycling methods you can do. The best one is fishless cycling. You completely set up you tank, heater filter the whole works but without the fish. Put some fish food in it everyday for about a month. After that all of the ammonia, pH and nitrates should be in order and the water should be safe. Also when adding the water, put in some water conditioner like Aqua Safe.

A quick way to cycle the water is to buy something called Bio-Spira. I think Petco sells it and maybe a local petstore in your area may. It's refrigerate. It's a little high but it basically does all the cycling for you and you can add your fish in there right away. The ammonia may spike up but it should settle down rather quickly. It's also very good if you are having a problem with your ammonia.

I would not ask your friend for any water. I would do it completely from scratch yourself. You could also ask a good local petstore if you could buy some of their water. I know mine will give you some of their cycled water from an empty tank, but still. You really can't trust someone elses water.

I personally have always used the Bio-spirva and have had no problems with it at all.

Here is an article on fishless cycling:

    http://www.aquahobby.com/articles/e_fish鈥?/a>

Make sure whatever live plants you buy go with whatever fish you are getting. Certain plants can't be with certain fish because if you fish should eat the plants it can be poisonous to them.

The rule of thumb with the fish is one inch of fish per 1 gallon of water. So if you only are going to have 2 fish, make sure the fish don't get bigger than 5 inches. Overcrowding with your tank can cause lots of problems.

Undergravel filters are a good thing to buy and for a 10 gallon tank, they shouldn't cost you that much.

I also use aquarium salt for my tanks. I put in a little bit when starting up a tank or doing water changes. This helps with keeping your tank healthy but some fish like Silver dollars, I have heard, can't have salt and that it burns their scales. (Not sure the truth behind that)

Make sure you also have a bucket that is JUST used for fish cleaning purposes. Perferrably a new one. I had a incident where I used an old bucket that I use to clean with. I washed it out good, or atleast what I thought was good and in 2 weeks, I lost every fish I had.

Personally, I would have the following when starting a new tank. You of course don't have to have everything on the list but this is what I have and my fish have always been fine except the bucket problem.

    gravel

    plants

    Water conditioner like Aqua Safe

    Aquarium salt

    fish net

    undergravel filter

variety of food depending on your fish

    Bio-Spirva

Master test kit (ammonia, pH, Nitrite and Nitrate)

    gravel

    vacuum

heater (if you want tropical fish)

    Filter

    Therometer

    decor

    new bucket

There is a lot to keeping a fish. A lot more then most people realize. I think it's great that you are taking out the time to do things right instead of just going out and buying fish.

    Hope this helps
Fill the water right away. Let it run for AT LEAST 24 hours. I strongly recommend 3-4 days and on the 5th day you can get fish definitely. Do not use tap water, use distilled or spring water from the store. Be sure to get conditioners for your tank
The number one thing to remember is to DO YOUR WEEKLY/BI WEEKLY water changes.

and use a water de clorine with each water change.

Distilled water, is not good. be careful and DO your research
Owning fish can be VERY involving! lol As I have learned. There's a lot you need to know before you head out and start putting fish in pretty tanks you set up. 1st you need to make sure the tank set-up is totally fish-friendly. Meaning there's no sharp things that could hurt the fish, no precarious rocks that can fall on them, everything is meant to be in an aquarium (some rocks can leak harmful minerals so always make sure they are aquarium safe!)

Then adding water is another ball game. The water has to be safe for the fish, so you will need to treat it to remove chlorine and chloramines (if it is tap water), and consider filtration, also make sure you cycle the tank before you put fish in so good nitrifying bacteria can grow to take care of ammonia, nitrates and nitrites. Distilled water is BAD for fish since it lacks minerals and electrolytes they need, spring water is good to use, or instead try half tap and half distilled.

Plus you have to measure PH, alkalinity, hardness, and the nitrates, nitrites and ammonia levels to ensure the tank is well balanced. Most tropical freshwater fish like the PH to range from 6.0-8.0 but keeping it near neutral is the best. Some fish require colder water (like gold fish) others need warmer water, like (Betta fish), so it's important to have a thermometer in the tank. Also you need to try to avoid letting any food fall to the bottom of the tank to rot, since this will turn to ammonia as well as fish waste, and harm the fish if there's too much.

As for gravel, usually 1/4 inch is all that is needed, the more there is the harder it can be to keep clean and you may need to get a gravel vacuum, a gravel cleaner, or have a undergravel filter. It all depends on your tank setup, plants or no plants.

And if your friend has an established tank take some of the gravel from her tank and put it into yours, allowing up to 2 days for the bacteria to get established only if you know for sure there's no rampant bad disease in her tank. You can also ask a local pet shop (preferably one that takes GOOD care of their fish) to let you have a little gravel. Or you can buy Bio-Spira, a product that puts in all the natural bacteria to start the cycle. Then the water will be safe for fish (providing you treated it to remove the bad chemicals too).

Now there's the fish. You need to know what fish go well together in a community tank. You should research and ask around about what fish are good together. For example, if you had African ciclids, they should be the only fish in the tank (maybe with a pleco) but they are very aggressive fin-nippers. Docile fish are guppies, mollies, platys, and goldfish, good for beginners. Just ask people at your local pet shop too, what fish are good together. Once you have them, don't put too many in the new tank all at once cause the ammonia levels may spike, and if one fish is sick they will all get sick. There are a lot of products to help treat fish and keep them less stressed so I suggest doing some good research. Watch out though cause the research can be frustrating since you will find a lot of contradictory information. Every fish owner does things a little differently and they all swear by their methods. Some people like to use aquarium salt for preventive measures against ick and parasites while others prefer not to use it, some do frequent water changes while others feel that is not healthy for the fish. So when it comes to specifics maybe referencing a good aquarium book is best.

For feeding, make sure you vary their diet. Most people go between freeze dried foods like brine shrimp, to frozen foods like bloodworms, to flakes, to pellets, and live food (live food may be risky though! Parasites!) Also never overfeed the fish, one-two times a day will suffice. Never feed them more than they can eat in two minutes. Overfeeding can lead to swim bladder and other problems so be careful!

So before you get into fish, bear in mind it will be expensive! And if your tank isn't settled your fish will most likely get stressed, sick, and die. It's happened to many who start this hobby and didn't know what they were doing so don't fall into the impatience of throwing them into the tank! Good luck to you and your future fish :) And please research into all the specifics!
DO NOT USE YOUR FRIENDS WATER, THE CCLE IS NOT DONE IN THAT TANK AND THE SAME WILL HAPEN TO YOU,since you are going to use real plant then your cycle can be a little faster and it might be better for you so do this... get 10 pounds of fine gravel, add declorinated water, add plants and let water settle, next day add 2 fish ( never add goldfish to a 10 gal tank, it is very inhumane they need at least 25 gallons per fish) get a ammonia, nitrite and nitrate kit try kits that test things individualy, test your water every day and change no more than 50% of the water daily until you finally get 0 ammonia(or as close you can get to 0) 0 nitrates and about 10 to 15 ppm nitrites and you should be good after that with 1 25% water change a week.

Moving from the U.S. to New Zealand advice?

Hello. I'm looking to move from the United States to New Zealand after I graduate from college. I'm a recreation and tourism major. I've spent time in New Zealand and I absolutely loved it. I'm meeting up with some travel buddies from England next summer I met while we were working on a conservation volunteer project through New Zealand. Even though we did get to travel last time, we want to go back and just travel and be tourists, since last time we were doing conservation work much of the time.

I figure this would be the best time for me to move: I don't really have any possessions in my name such as a house, and I don't have any outstanding loans since I got scholarships for college and my car is paid off. Most of my personal value is in savings accounts and not in material items that I'd want to take with me. It also helps that I'm not married and don't have any children too. And I have a sincere interest in New Zealand; I'm not one of these people leaving the U.S. because of being mad at the president or economic situation.

I'm looking for some suggestions and advice. Not so much about residency visas and other forms of legal requirements since I'll be reading in on them, but more personal observations. If you moved to New Zealand or have even lived in both countries, what did you notice about the two countries? Such as noticing taxes or the cost of living was much higher in one country than the other, cultural differences, things to be aware of, or the job market. Any insite you can give me would be much appreciated.Moving from the U.S. to New Zealand advice?
I too am an Honest and concerned kiwi - concerned for Pagrus's sake in that hes obviously never left the country!! if your going to make an argument that a country isn't safe then only talk about one city being the problem then you haven't got a good argument to start with have you!

I worked in a summer camp in the US for 3 months (north carolina) and traveled extensively round the states for 5 weeks afterwards. as people have already metnioned one of the main differences is that all our products (food, furniture, appliances, etc - everything) already has tax added to it so the price you see is all inclusive whereas in the states i know that tax is seperate so you view 2 prices for a product. regarding cost of living is hard to compare due to our dollar being weaker than the US dollar, consequently our minimum wage being $12 an hour seems higher than the US minimum wage (which is highest in the state of washington at $8.08) the differences in our dollar also probably make our rent seem quite expensive

check out http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-me-proper… to get an idea of the sort of weekly rents you might expect to pay.

Auckland is the most expensive city in NZ, followed by Wellington. I'd recommend Christchurch in the south island, its NZ's second largest city with a growing population of 400,000+ so plenty of job oppurtunities etc. Also the South island is a bit more laidback and has more stunning scenery than the North island. Winters are a bit colder, But Christchurch has a very low rainfall so its quite a dry city too.

as for cultural differences and thigs to be aware of I can't think of too much more. NZ is a beautiful country and despite what Pagrus may think its one of the safest nations in the world!!

Good luck :-)Moving from the U.S. to New Zealand advice?
I have lived in Europe, Australia and NZ, USA no sorry.

Kiwis are laid back and make great comedy, wonderful meat and produce.

If you love peace and want to be Nuke free come on over theres plenty of room.
i not very knowledgeable in this case but i have heard that new zealand has some of the best chocolate shops in the world-also try zorbing

See ? You can even get cheap loan there ! LOL
    we pay too much tax

    we dont give tips
There are a LOT of sheep there. Plus, everyone is really laid back and 'chill.'

There are tow type of people that live there, natives (who have a name of their own) and New Zealanders.

Oh, and be careful of the white spider. I dunno if that's the actual name, but be careful of them.

And don't forget about the climate. Obviously, it is opposite the US, so right now we are heading into summer, whereas the US is going in to winter/fall. Christmas' are always warm, and July is pretty cool. And during our summers it rains a ton. I am not joking, it could rain for like three months on end with out stopping, so make sure you bring a jacket!

Everyone is pretty nice and welcoming, and you'll love the beaches, but be careful with some of the jellies. Other than that, you're good. I hope you love it here, and enjoy your time.

Oh, and we're not too different culturally, but we do have some different slang words, but you'll probably catch on quick.
It is not expected to tip in New Zealand - it would be considered quite unusual if you did. All our prices have tax included on them (so you don't need to add anything). Tax on Goods and Services (GST) is 12.5%.

When you arrive, throw a barbeque and invite your neighbours - even if you just want to have everyone bring something. Kiwis luv a bbq.

Especially from foreigners, Maori customs are important.

New Zealand is much less commercialised than the US, and is a very safe country. Kiwis are always very friendly people

But if you don't like cold, the South Island can get v cold in winter. NZ summers are awesome.

O and when you arrive, be really careful in bringing any types of food in, especially fresh fruit and veges, meats and stuff like that coz NZ is really strict about biosecurity. and don't eat any shellfish straight off the rocks at the beaches cos its illegal.
Before i answer, let me start by saying that what Pagrus has said is partially true. Although Auckland may be the ';largest'; and fastest growing city, it is not the safest. There has been an increase in gang violence in south aukland so just be aware that New Zealand is not perfect and entirely safe. However, i suppose compared to gangs in the USA, they're nothing.

The biggest difference is, NZ is much smaller but it's good as there's plenty of room for everyone, it's never busy or overcrowded. There's lots of land left, lots of sheep and cows lol. Cost of living shouldn't be a problem as it's cheaper to live here than in the USA and you would be able to find a job very easily here.

It's definitely a beautiful country and if you want to experience the true beauty of NZ, you should visit the south island. Some places of interest are:

    Queenstown

    Arrowtown

    Wanaka

    Lake Tekapo

Dunedin (Cadbury Factory! and Student city, world's steepest road)

    Christchurch (very English city)

Wellington (windy, very windy and lots of hills)

    Auckland (sky tower)

    Nelson

    Malbrough Sounds

    Kaiteiri

Plenty of other places. You should check out some NZ websites to have a look for yourself.

Good luck, hope you like it here!
Pagrus is an idiot, I moved here from the UK 13 years ago and would never consider going back, the quality of life is excellent, though wages are low, the cities and towns are generally safe, certainly safer than most international cities I have visited, the people are a delight, the air is clean and it is one of the last really good places left on the planet to make your home
I lived in LA for 3 months - not long but long enought to get a feel for the differences between LA %26amp; NZ. I've been to NY and DC as well, I enjoyed both places but then I think I enjoyed them because they were difference. Pretty much everyone enjoys a change once in a while.

I think you will find New Zealand quite laid back, but depending what you want to get out of life, there are different places to live that offer different lifestyles. Seeing as you are a recreation and tourism major, you would probably want to head to the South Island. Yes, Auckland is the biggest city and is the gateway city to NZ so has a lot of tourist activity, it is a big city that can be very expensive to live in. I'm only being honest as I am from Auckland myself!

The south island is also a big pull for tourists with it's beautiful scenery and adventure sport activities. Some places are cheaper than others, depends on wether you want to head for one of the bigger cities or not. Christchurch or Wellington might be a good base for you. Google some of the cities I've mentioned and see if you see anything you like :)
I would advise anyone that intends to visit New Zealand to first log onto the local yahoo news website, www.yahoo.co.nz to witness the horror of rapes, murders and violent bashings and assaults that are occurring in this country on a daily basis. Just monitor the site for a few days to witness the frequency of crime.

New Zealand has turned into a very dark and dangerous country with many areas of Auckland too dangerous to visit. If coming to New Zealand do not visit areas of Auckland like Mangere, Papatoetoe, Otara, Manurewa, Wiri, Middlemore, Otahuhu, East Tamaki, Takanini, Westfield, Onehunga, Kelston, Penrose, Manukau, Homai and Drury to name a few.

Areas of Auckland central city are also very dangerous, especially at night. This has horrific crime and violence. If visiting be very very careful, get into a “Corporate Cab” that is driven by a New Zealander, if you don’t want to be driven 10 times further than you need to go and get ripped off. Preferably get picked up by friends and/or a reputable international tourist company shuttle/bus.

Unless you are staying and travelling with friends familiar with the “dark spots” of this country be very careful.
