I'm picking up a new kitten at the Humane society tomorrow. Any advice on introducing him to my adult cat.

I agree about putting the new kitten in a separate room (with his litter box and some food) to slowly get adjusted to his new surroundings and your adult cat. If you have a baby gate that would be great because then you can watch how they react to each other and stop any naughty behavior (hissing, trying to scratch) before it gets out of hand. Some transitions go easier than others depending on your adult cat's temperament and how he feels about the new family member invading his territory. Definitely don't leave them unattended together while you aren't home for the time being and until your are 100% sure everybody's happy. Good Luck- hopefully they will get along just fine......and congrats on your new kitten!I'm picking up a new kitten at the Humane society tomorrow. Any advice on introducing him to my adult cat.
I think you can get a lot of tips on that by going to: http://www.littlebigcat.com and reading Dr. Jean Hovfe's article titled ';Cat to Cat Introductions';.I'm picking up a new kitten at the Humane society tomorrow. Any advice on introducing him to my adult cat.
The first day dont let them meet. Then the next day, when the cat is a little more comfertable, let them meet with you in the room. After they meet for a while put the kitten in a different room and pet the old cat, let him no he is not forgotten. Have this kind of meeting for 1 or 2 more days and repeat the steps. After that then let them roam around the house freely together.
Introduce them slowly. like show th kitten the adult cat and tell the cat something about it. then the next day sit down with the kitten and make the adult cat come sit with you for they can look at each other and communicate.

Hope I Helped
Put the kitten in a separate room with the door closed. It should be a door that they can smell each other under, but not harm one another. You may need to keep the kitten confined to that room for a couple of days, depending upon how your older cat behaves.

Once things calm down, you can open the door and let them meet. The best time to do this is at mealtime because they will be preoccupied with food and will not be as likely to focus on negative feelings.

Good luck!
