Looking for value but have up to 2500 dillars for screen keyboard or computor. Am I better with desk or laptop?

Wow. Tough question because so much depends on personal opinion. So here goes. I prefer laptops because of the convenience of being able to move around or take it with me when I'm traveling. You can get upgrades to 4GB RAM, 160GB (or larger) hard drives, dual core processors, etc. Laptops today are more powerful than desktops of just a couple of years ago.

I prefer Dell computers (laptop or desktop.) I use Dells at work and each family member owns a Dell. We've never had a problem because of a manufacturing deficiency (lots of problems because of our own stupidity, however!)
The only drawback to a laptop is the relatively small hard drive space. But that's easily solved by getting an external hard drive for photos, music, etc.
