New webdesigner looking for advice?

Hope someone can help. When it comes to images, for media in general do you have to request permission to use media photos video etc., is there a shared pool of images and media that you can use in your sites? Any advice much appreciated or any other tips please feel free!

Thanks, New webdesigner looking for advice?
there are 2 types of stock images available. I will explain briefly here the difference.

Royalty Free Stock Images are widely available and suitable for use in many areas. There are a couple of very good suppliers which catalogues of millions of images - Istockphoto and 123RF. 123RF also allow members to access to free images too!

Rights Managed Stock Images are used in the print, media and advertising industry and usually have quite restrictive licenses over their use. Such as only appearing in a limited number of copies printed, used only in a certain territory, etc.

I'll include a link to a page I am working on explaining about stock images, though currently it's work in progress and I hope to have it finished totally in the next week, it still has some relevant info, just more needs to be added! - http://www.squidoo.com/Stock-PhotographsNew webdesigner looking for advice?
Images that are available for you to use are called ';stock images';. A lot of the time you have to pay to use them but you can find websites that have free sections. If you search ';stock images'; on google you can find lots of sites. Some of my favorites are:

Good luck!
