Well, you can't or won't sell anything if you don't believe in it - end of story. I tired to sell everything from radio advertising to cars ( my family is a big ';sales professional'; group) and it took me years to really ';get it';.
You need product knowledge as the answer above indicated and then you need to really believe in the company and the product you are offering - if you can do that you'll sell all kinds of product.
As for tips or pointers - I suggest this to every new employee or sales person that asks me the same question. Go to Chapters and browse the business books; find one that interests you and read about sales.
You'll get the ';build up your sales routine'; stuff, but in the end you can only really sell something you stand behind and have passion for - even if you have very little sales experience if others can feel your passion they will buy.
Remember this ... nothing happens in the world until some one sells something - nothing. In a way, every job takes a sales effort of one kind or another ... you just took a job that comes with unlimited salary and endless adventure!
Good luck!Any advice for a new ';soft-drink salesperson'; ?
what is the beverage?
know your product inside and out. its hard to sell something to someone, when you don't know what your selling!!
be honest. don't just tell people what you ';think'; they want to hear. what they want to hear is the truth!!
good luck!
