Always bend your knees. This is how I teach kids starting to learn, it usually works, but be flexible with the advice. Stand straight up and take one step forward, whatever that leg is, start using it as your ';push'; leg. Take the other leg and place your foot over the four screws in the front of the board. Bend your knees, push with your other leg. This will get it going, then put your other foot on the back concave of the deck, also known as the tail. This will take a little time to get used to, but you will get used to it and find a good way for you. Always bend your knees. Remember that everyone falls at one point or another. Practice this over and over again, just staying on the board. Once you are pretty proficient post another question about how to ollie and I am sure the YA community can answer. Good luck and keep trying.Advice for new skater?
Have your front foot at about the middle of the board, and your back foot on the tail. Keep your body balanced over the board. If you lean back, you are just gonna fall. Take three good pushes and then just glide until you start slowing down.
always wear your protective gear like helmet, kneepad, etc...
