Where can I get free legal advice/support for my new small business?

one of our clients has not paid for over 6 months - they are unfriendly and unwilling to communicate... we have taken the small claims route up to the point of a bailiff visit but they have changed their company name (slightly) - please help!

(in the UK by the way)Where can I get free legal advice/support for my new small business?

That is tough. As a small business owner it is difficult to get another small business to pay. I have learned the hard way so now I always get a sizeable down payment and if they don't pay when you finished the project then you would have least received some money. Many times a small business dosen't pay because they no longer have the funds or you didn't do a good job or some disagreement. Even if that wasn't the issue, sometimes they just won't pay.It is very costly to waste a lot of time on them once you realize you have exhausted the inexpensive procedures to get them to pay. So for now on if you haven't done it already, always get a sizeable down payment and don't start work until they do pay up front. If they can't pay up front, that is a sign not to do business. Start accepting credit cards so that you can get down payments that way.
In this case, you are better handing the matter over to a debt collection company. They will will make a charge, but are more likely to get your money back.

There is a wealth of free information for small UK businesses available on the Internet. Acas for employment matters, your local Chamber of Commerce, your trade body or organisation if you are a member. Many business insurance policies come with free access to a legal advice line. Make use of that if you have it.
