Take is easy for the first 1000KM. You should try to not exceed 3000RPM or 40-50 MPH. You should also try to vary your speed. Don't ride for more than 10 minutes at the same RPM or speed to fully ';break in'; you bike. So should also seriously consider having it proffessionally serviced after 1500 miles to have the lines tentioned, fluids changed, spokes tensioned. So on and so forth. But it is well worth the expense.
It's always a good idea to go easy on a new engine - known as ';Running In'; - to allow the parts to settle in to each other. New parts will be very tight and slightly rough - this will cause the engine to run hotter and risk seizing.

So yes - it is a good idea to run it gently for the first 1000km's or so. Regarding ';ideal speed';; it's not so much as the speed as the revs - I'd suggest you keep it below 1/2 the redline for the first 500 km's, and below 2/3 for the next 500.
