New Tattoo advice? Experts only please?

Im thinking of getting a new tattoo and Im having trouble visualizing exactly what I want.


What Im thinking is likely quite large on my back. I want something to symbolize the barriers that I face in life that hold me back from doing the things that I want to do.


Ive seen some tats that I like that were either thorns or barbed wire that kin of held the back together going from somewhere on the lower back up to the shoulders.


I would like to see some examples of this if you could provide a good web site with pics of ACTUAL ink on ppl so I can get a feel for what it may look like.


Basically I'm looking for a sort or ';binding'; tattoo to symbolize what I said above.


Any other Ideas on something different but relative would be alright too.





P.S. No kids please. I dont care what your teeny bopper selves think is cool. I need answers from experts here. Thanks.

Ok Russ. I think I can visulize what you mean. I can give you a couple of sites to look at that have tattoos divided into categories. www.tattooartists.org and www.ratemyink.com But I think that I should tell you to keep an open mind and look at lots of different styles and subject matters. You may find various items in different tattoos (religous ink, memorial ink,) that your artist will be able to incorporate with your thorn/barbwire idea into one unique tattoo for you.

have you ever though of finding an artist in your area ??? just wondering ... there are alot of artist out there that do custom designs and if you say exactly what you said above im sure they can draw you something you are looking for .

I like your ideas about thorns and barbed wire,but as for your 'breaking free' I would go for broken chains, or tether binds a person on the knees,head to the sky,hair all wild,with one bind broken,in light browns or greys. At about 12 inches in the middle of the back. ( I do not know of a good enough website to give you) I am just giving you my professional opinion
i have never seen anything that is like what you are talking about so it would be useless to search for an existing tattoo that likely doesn't exist.


you need to find a custom tattoo artist, one who's work impresses you and have them create a tattoo for you. it's likely something they'd want to freehand on you (tho not all tattoo artists know how to freehand a design on the body, some NEED stencils)





just be as descriptive as possible and find pictures. not pictures of tattoos but actual pictures of whatever it is that you are thinking of. good luck!
just find an artist you trust and talk with them. they should be able to draw up a design for you and even a stencil on you skin so you can see what it would approximately look like.
Wasn't sure whether to write to you because I'm not an ';expert'; on tattoos, but I thought this info may be useful to you. I was getting a cover up on my back which is a bit more difficult to work with. Most of the tattoo's I seen on the internet were too fine, too big, etc so I went to a tattoo store that specialised in their own drawings. I done a rough drawing of the tattoo I was looking for and gave it to the shop, I gave them a week and when I went back in they showed me the ideas they came up with, I picked the one I liked best, they then drew it on my back with a marker to see what I thought.. I went ahead with it.





You may get a better picture by doing what I done because you can see what it will look like on your own back, it's more realistic than looking at tattoo's on the net.
