New cat advice? Please help?

We had 2 cats when we moved into the house we live in now. One older male, and one older female. They didn't like each other, but didn't bother each other either.

About a year after moving in, we got a young (year old) male cat.

(name is Walrus) He REALLY admired our older male cat (name is Calvin) Calvin was like a mentor to Walrus, Walrus followed him around, and always did what he did. Which involved tom-cat like stuff, cause Calvin was a tough ';manly man'; kind of cat.

Calvin always cried/screamed at night after his brother (Hobbs) died, which was a few years before we even moved into this house. Then after Calvin died (a couple years after Walrus moved in), Walrus started screaming every night as well.

Now it's only Walrus, because our female kitty died from old age as well. We've fostered kittens %26amp; cats before, and Walrus really didn't like that. He started spraying around the house. He didn't attack them or anything, just sprayed, and got a little hostile.

Just this year, he's been having patches of fur missing, scratches %26amp; scabs, plus swollen areas across his face because of neighborhood cat fights.

We've wanted another cat for quite some time now, but don't know if that's even possible, with Walrus. The other day, we were at a cat shelter, and saw a 3 year old male cat that looked just like Calvin. He was very mellow, %26amp; sweet.

Would Walrus be more accepting of this cat because he looks so identical to his past beloved companion? Or would this just upset him? Any suggestions as to what kind of cat would be best for Walrus? We need help!!

+ thank you very much for reading all this.... if you have. :D I know it's a lot, but I just thought that the more detail, the easier it would be to understand and help us.New cat advice? Please help?
Hi, if in the past he wasn't keen on the cats you brought home, i would be cautious. I think it wouldbe best if you explained this to the shelter and asked if maybe you could take him home for say... 1-2 weeks to see how they get along, i am sure they'd understand as they want the best for the animals too. That way, you get to see if it would work out, and if it doesnt no harm.

You said the cat was very mellow, i can't see a problem he's not a kitten and could maybe be an older companion for Walrus

but becareful as he may ony have likes calvin because he was there before him.

I would ask your shelter if you can bring him home for a certain amount of time and see how you get on.

good luck, i hope it works out

I think a younger cat, even a kitten, preferably female would be easier for Walrus to accept. The fact that the cat you have seen looks like Calvin will mean nothing to him. It was Calvins presence and personality that he admired, what he looked like didnt come into it.
i don't think an identical cat is the solution.. Walrus liked Calvin for who he was right? search up what breed of cat he was (for characteristic purposes) and find one with a similar attitude who would like Walrus
yeah- i think you should get the cat, he is probably very lonely right now and could use a buddy, and if he has been getting in fights with other cats then maybe try keeping him inside more often
Hi

Thanks for caring.

As long as you can deal with the spraying for a while, there is no reason not to get this other cat. You have been lucky. It can take a bit of time for things to settle down and for them to be friends. Make sure you keep the hierarchy and that this cat you get won't be the number 1

cat.

I don't think the looks matter

Best of luck
