Need a new computer base unit, advice please?

I need a new computer base unit.

I don't know whether to buy one from somewhere or bother to build it myself again. So your opinions or advice on where to buy one from for the best price or what specifiacation I should be looking for (or both) would be helpful.

ie:

Mother board:

Graphics card:

Hard Drive:

Memory:

DVD/CD Writer:

Sound card:

etc

I don't need a monitor, just the base unit.

Tell me what you would do with the money (as far as a computer goes anyway, i'm sure that you can all come up with very colourful things to do with a 拢1000. But right at this moment I need the computer:-)

What spec would you be looking for if spending between 拢800 - 拢1000Need a new computer base unit, advice please?
go to ebuyer.com or overclockers.com and buy a barebones kit

800 w/o monitor should buy an excellent pc

These days you can get a very good computer for that money. The specifications are entirely up to you as it does depend on what you want it for. Making it yourself would be the cheapest option if you know how, if not then i recommend getting it custom made elsewhere.

I can't tell you what to get as thats up to you but I often go to the dell website and custom build a computer there just to get an idea of the price and the specs i can get.

good luck
Hi Puter,

It depends on what you want it to do. If you just want it for surfing and WP, then one for about 拢350 should do. Should you want a games machine then your top price of 拢1000 would get you an Intel Core DuoCPU, 500GB HDD, 2GB RAM, Direct X 10 graphics and MS Vista Home Premium. Avoid Dell and PC World, go to Evesham, they have some very good deals.
Various online publications publish regular articles on such themes.

What do you want to do with the computer?

See below for an article on a low cost system that could be used for reading email and web browsing.

Note that though this article uses Linux as the OS (to save $500 or more) you could always buy Windows and the price would still be pretty reasonable.

The second article outlines ideas for building a Vista system.

These web sites, and I suspect many more, have lots of these types of articles. Most people providing such advice want to know what kinds of things you are going to do with it, so they can help you optimise the various hardware needed.
If it were me knowing what I know and able to build my own I would buy a new DELL direct from DELL.COM
